Maggie Watson obtained her B.Sc. from the University of Bath and PhD from University of Sheffield UK. She did her post-doctoral research in the Department of Experimental Psychology University of Oxford before being appointed Research Fellow at Kings College Medical School University of London.

She then held an appointment at the City University London as Lecturer in Psychology before being appointment in 1986 as Cancer Research UK Research Fellow at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and Sutton, UK

She was appointment Consultant Clinical Psychologist at the Royal Marsden Hospital in 1992 then Head of Psychological Medicine Service in 2004.

She is co-author of six books and 130 academic publications.

In 1982 she co-founded the British Psychosocial Oncology Society [BPOS] and was made Honorary Life member in 1989.

She is currently President of the International Psycho-oncology Society.

She has been a co-editor of the journal Psycho-oncology with Professor Jimmie Holland since it was launched in 1992.

She has  had a busy clinical practice seeing cancer patients and their families for more than 25 years.
